I found that I did NOT have to move the dictionary to the top for it to work in Spotlight. I just went into Dictionary Preferences, checked the box to enable the Ruby on Rails dictionary. You might need to select All dictionaries in the main Dictionary window, but it looks like Spotlight does that by default. Great idea!

Very cool. Thinking the next step would be a tool that automatically converts any RDoc to Mac OS X Dictionary format and installs it. Well done.

I had to add a Look Up in Dictionary shortcut. In Keyboard Shortcuts, Add a shortcut, Choose All Applications, Title it "Look Up in Dictionary" and assign your the desired key combination.

Hello, On Leopard, this particular dictionary make Dictonary.app and Spotlight menu to crash on 10.5.8. There is no problem the regular Ruby On Rails and Ruby dictionaries. I hope this can be easily fixed but I guess you are using 10.6..

hi priit, great post and useful dictionary. thanks for the contribution. i just installed the ruby and RoR dictionaries in my mac 10.5 do you know if there is a workaround so that spotlight will search through two dictionaries or more instead of just the first one from the top in its preferences? that would be the cherry on top of the cake.
